Corporate Responsibility

MARUHAN Japan Bank - Corporate Responsibility

The MARUHAN Japan Bank, and our parent company MARUHAN Corporation, firmly believe in promoting growth and wellbeing in the communities in which we serve. MARUHAN Japan Bank’s philosophy is to drive social support within every aspect of our organisation in a responsible manner. This includes providing both financial and in-kind assistance to worthy programmes and organisations operating in Cambodia.

A few of our notable corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects already include the sponsorship of the Pour un Sourire d’Enfant (PSE) sports programme which is facilitated by the Indochina Starfish Foundation (ISF). The programme provides sporting opportunities for children from extremely poor families living around the city’s garbage dump and/or working as scavengers at the dump. We also sponsor an ISF bus that transports children from various orphanages, schools and organisations to football matches.

In 2009 MARUHAN Japan Bank, along with numerous other sponsors, also helped Happy Football Cambodia Australia send a team to the Homeless World Cup in Milan, Italy. The Cambodian delegation quickly became a favourite with people around the world for their tenacity and skill when taking on more dominant players from other countries.

These are just a couple of examples of the many ways MARUHAN Japan Bank is fulfilling its corporate responsibilities. Sponsoring a football team or even a school bus may seem a small contribution but it is part of a wider mission to serve the communities in which we operate and give even the most disadvantaged something to smile about.

Other CSR projects undertaken by MARUHAN Group include:

  • Construction of water wells in Prey Veng province.
  • Construction of the new ‘Protheat Junior High School’ in Prey Veng province.
  • Donations to pagodas and poor communities in Kandal province.
  • Sponsorship of the Phnom Penh-based Cambodian Under-18s football team (for the provision of sports equipment and other related commitments).
